Georgia Tech softball preview

The red hot Virginia Tech softball team travels to Atlanta this weekend to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. First pitch is Friday at 6:00 followed by a doubleheader Saturday at noon. The games will be carried on ESPN3.

During the last two weeks, I’ve posted that both Pittsburgh and Boston College were both playing good ball as they came to Blacksburg and that the VT ladies would have their hands full. Well, the Hokies totally proved me wrong by sweeping both series, so let’s see if we can keep the magic going.

Georgia Tech stands at 12-17 overall with a 1-5 record in the conference. They got swept at home by BC and dropped 2 out of 3 in Louisville. However, they are 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Jackets are led by freshman Katie Krzus, who is batting .341. Senior Courtney Ziese (.280 average) leads the team in RBIs with 14 and
Junior Samantha Pierannunzi leads the team in home runs with 4.

In the circle, the Yellow Jackets have only used two pitchers all year. Emily Anderson (8-10), who has pitched 199 innings, has given up 199 hits and has an ERA of 3.28. Their other pitcher is Jenna Goodrich (4-7), who has pitched 76 innings and has an ERA of 2.86.

In the other dugout, the Hokies hope to keep up their momentum. After going through the first part of th eyar with only one .300 hitter, the Hokies now have 5 hitters that are batting .299 or better, led by Caitlyn Nolan at .364. In her last 6 games, she is hitting a blistering .667 with a HR, 3 doubles, and 9 RBIs. Lauren Duff has raised her average to .316 after going 8 for 15 in her last 6 games including 4 doubles, a triple, and a HR, which has driven in 6 runs.

Here’s hoping the Hokie Express keeps rolling, but the Jackets are certainly capable of getting the job done.

GO HOKIES!!!!
